CHOCOLA FARM REHABILITATION

The Chocola Farm includes approximately 100 acres in Harbor Springs, Michigan, ten miles from the Lake Michigan coast. Dating back to the 1890s, and located on a gently rolling site, the historic dairy farm included several important structures in need of preservation and rehabilitation. These buildings were all integrated into an overall master plan with new construction to be utilized as a modern horse facility.

The centerpiece of the project is the original dairy barn, which was carefully converted into a luxury residence. The existing wood truss structure was repaired and left exposed to view. Carefully designed lofts above the main living spaces utilize the volume of the barn structure to provide bedroom and support spaces. Several outbuildings, including a craft barn and service structure were also rehabilitated as a part of the project.
