J.D. McCarty Summer Camp

GH2 designed the new summer camp facility for the J.D. McCarty Center for Children with Disabilities. Constructed near an existing lake on the main campus, the new facility provides children with special needs the chance to experience camping and various rehabilitative and recreational programs.

The camp includes cabins for the children and adults, a dining hall, arts and crafts center, swimming pool, an accessible tree house, ropes course and a headquarters facility with nurse stations. All facilities have a rustic feel and were designed to accommodate children with disabilities. The Dining Hall is a large open room utilized to serve all the meals for the camp and also serve as a multi-purpose space for various functions and gatherings. The Arts and Crafts center is also an open floor plan designed to accommodate a variety of art and craft activities.
